A message from the Chairman of the Stephen Sondheim Society
A huge thank you to everyone who pledged – and to those who increased their pledges after our persistent badgering – over the past month. It’s been an amazing experience so far. And so many people have been getting in touch with offers of help and support that I know the next challenging part of the project – actually “putting it together” – will be just as gratifying.
A particularly massive thank you to our chums who gave us their support from the very start and helped us promote the project: Imelda Staunton, Jamie Parker, Nicholas Parsons and Dame Esther Rantzen. And to the many others who’ve since got in touch to wish us luck. I also want to say thanks to our corporate supporters, without whom this project would not be possible. My aim has always been to put on the biggest show possible and use the profits to make a difference to these two charities – the Stephen Sondheim Society and The Silver Line – and with your help, and the help of our big name stars, it looks like Hey, Old Friends! is going to do just that.
This type of project appears to be rather an unusual one for Kickstarter’s theatre section, as we’re asking you have faith in a concert without a 100% confirmed cast list or programme of any kind. I know booking a ticket speculatively is such a leap of faith but I can’t say how much I appreciate the fact that most of you did just this. “Art isn’t easy”, as we know, but it does help that we’ve got Steve Sondheim’s blessing and that half of the West End’s top talent are hammering down our door to perform!
So, look out for more updates over the coming weeks, and expect some dialogue with the Kickstarter people as they collect the pledges. I’ll also be in touch with specific details on collecting your specific requests re rewards and seats, etc.
Thank you all again… Cx
