The Society enjoyed a wonderful five-star evening at the St James Studio courtesy of Dominic Ferris and Martin Milnes, the piano-vocal duo who blew us all away at Sondheim’s 85th birthday gala at Drury Lane last October.
Pianist extraordinaire Ferris and the “two-voiced” Milnes – who switches effortlessly between his regular tenor voice and a soprano-like falsetto – premiered their new residency, Let’s Go On With The Show, at the 100-seat studio on Saturday 30th January.
The eclectic programme showcased the remarkable talents of both performers, and ranged from Gilbert & Sullivan to Elton John via every show played in the West End in the past year – the latter brilliantly condensed in the style of the “33 Sondheim Numbers in 5 Minutes” mash-up that proved such a hit at the Drury Lane gala. Sadly, we didn’t get to hear the Sondheim version, but Dominic promised us that it would make a return in the Spring when the pair revisit the St James.
If you missed Ferris & Milnes’ performance at the gala, you can see them in action here.
We will be organising another Society visit once the dates have been confirmed and the tickets released by the St James.
