We’re pleased to announce the line up for this September’s The Stephen Sondheim Society Presents… cabaret at the Phoenix Artist Club. We’re particularly excited about this upcoming cabaret as it features our first transatlantic guest, a Society member who’s just returned from a hit season in Edinburgh, and an award-winning Australian mezzo-soprano fresh from depicting Judy Garland…
Gary Bland trained at Rose Bruford and began his performance career in 2012, aged 51. Since then, he has played Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler, and appeared in the award winning Epidemic produced by the Old Vic. He made his feature film debut in Les Misérables, and his West End stage debut was in December 2013 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, as an Ugly Sister. In May 2014, Gary had a principal role as Old Joe Boyd in Damn Yankees at the Landor, which received excellent reviews. In May 2015, Gary performed his first solo cabaret at Le Crazy Coqs in the West end, and in June 2015, Gary had his first lead role in The Baker’s Wife to rave reviews. Gary will be performing a new cabaret show at Le Crazy Coqs on 22nd November 2016. Gary is currently in Edinburgh performing his solo cabaret show,Mr Romantic: A Tribute to Johnny Mathis.
Vanessa Reseland is from New York City and can currently be found at the Menier Chocolate Factory playing The Witch in Into the Woods. She is possibly best known for her role as Farrah in the web/TV series, The All-For-Nots, produced by Michael Eisner (Hulu/Mark Cuban’s HDNet TV). She has also played Young Little Edie in Grey Gardens (Cape Playhouse), Suzy in Wait Until Dark (PA Centre Stage), The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods (Northern Stage) and many other strong-willed female characters. She understudied four of the roles in Fiasco’s Into the Woods at Roundabout Theatre Company off-Broadway. She is a long-time supporter of animal rights and a cruelty-free life-style. In addition to her acting career, Vanessa is a song-writer and musician. Her glitter rock band, WIFEY, performs monthly in NYC.
