Every month, The Stephen Sondheim Society Presents… welcomes three performers to the Phoenix Artist Club in the heart of Soho for a cabaret evening of Sondheim, new musical-theatre writing and a selection of Broadway standards. Our aim is a mix of 50% Sondheim, 25% rare or new songwriting, and 25% classics, although our hosts Tim McArthur and MD Aaron Clingham are afforded some leeway!
The cabaret evening – held once a month, typically on the first Monday – aims to showcase new talent, and particularly the finalists of our Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition. Since our first cabaret back in April 2016, we’ve featured SSSSPOTY winners, runners-up and finalists, alongside some of the West End’s best talent. Sondheim himself is always keen to support new and young talent, so part of our remit is to also invite the writers of new musical theatre songs and shows, which means you’ve got a good chance of hearing new songs from the stars of the future.
Please do join us in support of this new and established talent – as a charity, we rely solely on ticket sales to make the event work, so your encouragement and support is much appreciated. We’ve held ticket prices at £12 for members and £15 for non-members, and while you can pay on the door, it’s often best to book in advance to guarantee your seat. We’ve had to turn people away, so don’t miss out! If you’re a member, look out for your Society email newsletter with details of the password, or check back here and on social media – we’re on Twitter and Facebook – for details of who’s singing next. You can also call the Phoenix Artist Club booking line on 0333 666 3366 for more information and to reserve your seat(s).
See you at the next event!
