Dutch Touring Opera company (Nederlandse Reisopera) is taking what artistic director Nicolas Mansfield calls Sondheim’s “black operetta” to nine cities and towns, from its premiere in Enschede on 5 September to its farewell performance in Utrecht on 17 October.
In between this English language production with Dutch surtitles visits Maastricht, Arnhem, Den Bosch, Eindhoven, Heerlen, Amsterdam (3-4 October) and Zwolle.
There could hardly be a bigger contrast between the two leads with American opera singer Dale Duising playing opposite well-loved Dutch comedienne Sannie Wallis de Vries.
Robert Burt, who played Pirelli in the award-winning Adelphi production, has a crack at Beadle Bamford this time, while others in the cast, who will be backed by a full symphony orchestra, are Richard Stuart, Tyler Clarke, Nina Lejderman and Doris Baaten. The director is Marcel Sijm.
